True, the cat analogy only goes so far; it's meant as an example of becoming comfortable with difference. As for my own human xenophobia, I will always have work to do -- there are more cultures of humans than there are of domestic house cats -- but I'm leaps and bounds ahead of where I was just a few years ago (having come from a segregated white neighborhood).

Luckily, the murderers and rapists you mention are not the dominant class in society; so the problem of systemic white xenophobia is much easier to address than something like "stop ALL crime".

Yes, let's tackle xenophobia from every angle. I will not stop anyone from integrating, but neither will I ask that of anyone. Of COURSE it's an option, anyone can choose it (at the expense of other things they and their friends value). So, yet another white person saying "you should just act more white" doesn't really add to the discussion. It perpetuates a racist myth that integration is a beneficial long-term strategy... thus further entrenching racism. It seems like you intend to help people of color by explaining this option to them, as if they don't realize what's at stake.

You have power over your (presumably mostly-white) audience and I believe you are misusing it by spreading this idea. I'm merely asking that you be more thoughtful about how your ideas come across.
